Cabins & Facilities

  • Private Cabin: Two-person compartment with upper and lower berths, bedding, pillow, and a small washbasin with mirror.
  • Restrooms: Shared toilets at the end of each carriage. Elite-class carriages have noticeably cleaner facilities.
  • Climate Control: Air-conditioned throughout. Bring a light jacket as it can get cool at night.
  • Luggage: About 2 square meters of floor space — enough for two suitcases, but you'll need to work around them to open them.
  • Power: European-style outlets in the cabin. Bring an adapter (220V).

  • Dinner: Served around 9:00 PM, with a choice of meat or vegetarian options.
  • Breakfast: Light breakfast is delivered in the morning, often served as the train passes the sugarcane fields south of Luxor.
  • Attendants: Each carriage has a dedicated attendant who delivers meals, makes up the beds, and provides hot water for tea or coffee.
  • Tipping: It is customary to tip the attendant $1–2 per person per trip for good service.

  • Elite Class: ~$140 per person — newer carriages with better restroom facilities.

  • Stations: Trains depart from Cairo's Upper Egypt Station or Giza Station.
