Shali is the ancient mud-brick citadel that once housed all of Siwa's population, its weathered ramparts still dominating the town center today. A short distance away, the Temple of the Oracle sits atop a rocky outcrop in the village of Aghurmi, dedicated to the god Amun of the 26th Dynasty. It was here, tradition holds, that Alexander the Great consulted the oracle and was confirmed as a son of Amun — a moment that helped cement his legitimacy as ruler of Egypt. The nearby Temple of Umm Ubayd complements the visit with further ruins from the same era.
Cleopatra's Spring, also known as Ein Guba, is a natural freshwater pool set among palm groves, popular for a refreshing swim after a day of sightseeing. Just outside town, the Siwa Salt Lakes are famed for their unusually high salt content, allowing visitors to float effortlessly on the surface much like the Dead Sea.
